1974

Qatar Steel was established on October 14 under the name QASCO.

1978

Commenced steel production.

1981

Achieved 1 million tons of production for DR, EF, CC, and RM.

1989

Achieved 5 million tons of production from all plants.

1991

Acquired Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) mark certification.

1995

Acquired ISO 9002 certification.

1997

Became fully owned by the Government of Qatar.

1999

Commissioned Electric Arc Furnace 3 (EAF3) with a capacity of 622,000 MT.

2003

Became wholly owned by Industries Qatar.

2007

Rebranded to Qatar Steel with the slogan 'We Make Steel Matter'.

2008

Celebrated 30 years in business; named among top four steel producers in the Middle East by MEED.

2009

Received UK CARES Product Conformity in Steel for Reinforcement of Concrete Certificate.

2010

Obtained Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) Product Conformity in Steel for Reinforcement of Concrete Certificate.

2011

Signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Gulf Cement Company to establish a quick lime plant in Umm Bab area.

2013

Qatar Steel received UK CARES Sustainable Reinforcing Steel Re-certification.

2014

Qatar Steel's new plant, EAF5, came online in January with a total capacity of 1.04 million tons per annum.

2016

Became the first integrated steel plant in the region to achieve ISO 27001:2013 certification for Information Security Management Systems.

2017

Held a seminar on the optimization of steel slag in construction and road asphalting.

2018

Awarded for Excellence in Stand Design & Build at Project Qatar 2018.

2022

Experienced a significant surge in revenues (+9.7% year on year), predominantly attributed to a 14% increase in sales volumes.
